Kid Friendly Activities

  • Posted on

You are planning a vacation to the North Georgia mountains and need activities for the kiddos to do.  Here are a few of the wonderful destinations you can take them to help build some wonderful lifelong memories.

Note:  Many of these activities I have not personally visited myself.  I have just compiled things that others have recommended in various area forums I visit so that you can have choices all in one place.  Woodhaven Rentals LLC has no affiliation, nor is receiving any compensation for providing these links.

Hiking

One of the best things about the North Georgia Mountains is the beauty of Nature!  And there is an abundance of it in this area.  Use this time to get the kids off their electronic devices and take them to one of the many wonderful parks in the area and go on a nature hike.

We wrote an article earlier this year about general things to do in the area, and the first section is all about the hikes and waterfalls we recommend visiting in the area.  Take a look at that article for more information.

Ziplining

For the older kids and adults alike another fun way to see the beauty of the mountains is by taking a zipline tour.  Here are two zipline facilities in the area

Ocoee Ziplines and Canopy Tour

Copperhill TN, 37317

This one is a little bit of a drive North of Blue Ridge, however it also offers a combo River Rafting experience if that is something your family is interested in.  No age or weight requirements listed on the website, so I would call before to double check what their requirements are.

HorseBack Riding

Another popular activity in the area is Horseback riding.  It is also a wonderful way to take in the nature of the Blue Ridge mountains.

We have already detailed our recommendations for Horseback riding locations in a separate Blog post.  Head over to it to read all about Horseback riding in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Tubing / Rafting

If you are visiting during some of our warmer months a great way to cool off and have a memorable day is by floating down the Toccoa River.

Toccoa River Tubing Company

Phone: 706-492-5280

340 Toccoa Avenue

McCaysville, GA 30555

This Tubing company is the same that runs the first two zipline sites listed earlier.  So they do run special combo deals if you wanted to tube and zipline.

It says on the site that the minimum age to participate is 5 years old.

590 Edelweiss Strasse

Helen, GA 30545

This one is actually not right near Blue Ridge, but is in Helen Ga.  Helen is about an hour drive from Blue Ridge and if you have read our other blogs we really think if you have never been to Helen this is a great place to take a day trip.  They have wonderful German food, lots of activities to include this float which goes right through the town.

It says on the site that the minimum age to participate is 3 years old.

Mini Golf and Gem Mining

Another relaxing activity is to take the family out for a round of mini golf or mine for some precious gems, you never know what you will find!

733 E Main St
Blue Ridge, GA 30513

This is one of our few recommendations which is actually indoors.  Which makes it a perfect rainy day or cold weather activity.  The building used to be an old hotel and they have transformed it into a unique one of a kind mini golf course.  Each room has it’s own theme.  Fun for all ages!

24 Adelaide Dr
Blue Ridge, GA 30513

t. 866-GEM-MINE
e. info@lillypadvillage.com

This is truly a one stop shop for those with younger kids or just for those young at heart.
This area was originally known for it’s mining of precious metals like copper, and now the kids can see what it is like to pan for gems.  They also offer fishing ponds, and a wooded mini golf course.

Cohutta Cove Mini Golf and Gem Mining

http://www.cohuttacoveminigolf.com

64 Dunbarton Farm Rd.

Blue Ridge, GA 30513
1-706-946-1920

This is your typical minigolf course.  Not as quaint or unique as the other two mentioned but it is affordable and right near downtown Blue Ridge.  So still an excellent choice if you have to get the kids out of the cabin for a few hours to burn off some energy.

Unique Adventures

Here are some other family friendly outings that are unique to our area!

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

https://brscenic.com/

241 Depot Street

Blue Ridge, GA 30513

E: info@brscenic.com

P: (877) 413-8724

One cannot walk through downtown Blue Ridge without noticing the train tracks and of course the big blue train that frequents them.  Many families enjoy riding the train from Blue Ridge to McCaysville and back.  It is a wonderful chance to take in the mountain scenery from a different vantage point.

Tank Town USA

todd@tanktownusa.com

10408 Appalachian Hwy

Morganton, GA 30560

(706) 633-6072

So you are looking for a once in a lifetime memory?  Well look no further. At Tank Town you can drive actual tanks, crush cars, and fire machine guns!!  Of course this all comes at a price but talk about unique!  The kids would never forget this trip.

Be aware the driver has to have a valid drivers license, but passengers can be as young as 7 years old

Blue Ridge Helicopter Tours

https://brheli.com/

info@brheli.com

1010 Appalachian Highway
Blue Ridge, GA 30513

tel: 706-946-1010

See the North Georgia mountains like no one else can from the sky!!  This is a bucket list item for many and also something a vacation memory that the kids will remember for the rest of their lives!

Minimum age is 2 years old!
